The 3rd meeting of the Reunion Committee met at 1 PM, Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the home of Gary and Ginny Pine.
As you can see, things got a little out of control.
In attendance were Gary Pine, Virginia Vielehr, Dianne Schadegg, Linda Grozky, Sue Preston, Ann Forward, Ethel Rance, Marsha Pearson, Louie Dukes, Alice Bayne, William Arndt, Larry Orme, Ron McGuckin, Don Hovde and Ronny Bush. Absent was anyone who wanted to be here but wasn't.
The meeting began with comments by Ronny Bush. Bush remarked about the search team that is lead by Linda Beermann. The team is currently made up of Bruce Nahrgang, Joyce Hansen, Robertta McElroy, Bev Allen and Jill Coppom. The team is trying to verify addresses and phone numbers. Actually, they just want to talk to someone.
Bush also talked about a new feature on the web site called The Best of the Odaroloc. The questionnaires returned show that about 20% of the classmates don't have a year book. Steve Thompson will scan a picture or two a week from the Odaroloc for Bush to put on the web site. This site will become a place for those without access to the book to view pages possibly for the first time in 40 years!
The registration form has a place for classmates who are not buying a ticket to make a donation to the committee for covering expenses of the work of the committee now and for ongoing activity.
Bush's final opening remark regarded the Memory Book. Bush's plan was to have the internet replace the memory book. He said that although plans are to maintain the site until the last dog drops, it is possible that the site may not be maintainable that long. A hard copy would be very important to the long term preservation of our hard work. Also, Bush wants pictures from the 40th reunion included in the book. That means a post-reunion printing. The $20 price tag includes $2 per book for postage.
Alice Bayne then gave a statistical report about our classmates. By 3/11/05 we had received 79 e-mail responses from classmates. As of that date the committee had collected 101 e-mail addresses from classmates. Of the 447 classmates on the graduating list there are 248 living along the front range of Colorado, which is 55% of the class and 89 live in Boulder, which is 20% of the class.
Linda (Gortzky) Orme and Ethel (Rance) Garand together reported that a checking account as been opened with Boulder Valley Credit Union. Ethel and Dianne Bush are both signors. Only one signature is required. It is under the name Boulder High School Class of 1965. Ethel optained a Tax Exempt status. That is an exemption from income tax; not to be confused with a Sales Tax Exemption for which we are not exempt. The account was opened with $849.11. Ethel advised Bush to submit via e-mail a request for a $500 reimbursement for the deposit on the Field House Rental for the Main Event. Ormes need to submit their bill for the mailing and postage of the postcards which were sent in February.
Ron McGuckin talked about raising money from the golf tournament through hole sponsors to donate to Boulder High School for a scholarship fund. McGuckin will look into various ways to make a donation. With that in mind, Vielehr reviewed the issue of a silent auction that was proposed at the last Committee Meeting by Frank Lister. The money raised by the silent auction and by the golf will be money separated from money raised for the Alumni activity.
Frank Lister is committed to organizing the silent auction. Vielehr reported to the group some of the elements of running an auction. Bush will support the auction through the web site. Classmates would bring items with them rather than ship ahead. Photos of items can be taken and provided to Bush for posting on a web site. Vielehr encouraged the use of a charge card system which would possibly increase sales. Ethel will look into a temporary charge card system. (She did on Monday and reported that it is possible).
Ethel suggested that we invite our favorite teachers to the FAC. Ethel and William Arndt will look for a list of local former teachers. Details will be to make a list and send a nice invitation. Also, someone must be assigned as a greeter for this group as they arrive at the FAC.
A mailing will be sent in late April with Reunion Details, a Registration Form, a request for a Bio and answers to some thoughful questions:
1) What is your worst, best memory of BHS?
2) When was your last colonoscopy?
3) What's the farthest away you have traveled from Boulder?
